A few weeks ago, I decided it would be fun to learn to knit. As a child, my mom had taught me the basic knit stitch but I had long ago forgotten it. But these days, thanks to YouTube and Pinterest, you can learn how to do almost anything.
I discovered a basic how-to set of videos by VeryPink.com. These short videos are very clear, concise and a great place to start. She teaches how to cast on, the knit stitch, purl stitch and casting off. From there, as she puts it, the knitting world is yours.
After carefully watching her videos once or twice, I started my first project and then second project. These projects shall go unnamed and unmentioned because they may or may not be Christmas presents. 🙂
But I will share my third project with you. Have you seen the knitted coffee cup cozies? I love almost everyone I see. They were one of the main reasons I wanted to start knitting. So after learning my basic stitches and finished a couple projects, I decided I was ready for something a bit more complicated.
I have always loved the Irish cable knit sweaters. You know, the comfy, bulky ones you see iconic Irish fishermen wearing. I told my husband when we do eventually get our dream vacation to Ireland, I will be getting one of those sweaters. But before I get the sweater, I now have a coffee cozy that will match.
I found the free pattern at Woolen Thoughts. It’s simple and easy to follow but comes out looking like you really know what you’re doing! 😀
I was pretty nervous knitting this pattern for the first time, but it came out beautifully. Not too shabby for only my third knitting project!
