Alaskan Christian Fiction Book Review

Posted by on May 1, 2014

I haven’t been a fan of Christian Fiction in years.

When I was little, I read the The Mandie Collection by Lois Gladys Leppard and loved them. The kids series by Frank Peretti was great. I read Love Comes Softly (Love Comes Softly Series) by Janette Oke, and they were okay. I loved pioneer type stories, so they made the cut. But that’s pretty much were any interest in the genre ended for me.

I’ve tried over the years, but they’re always so DEPRESSING. Someone (or several someones) dies, loses a limb, is maimed for life, alone and miserable, etc, etc. Not exactly my idea of entertainment. Don’t get me wrong. I understand where they’re going with it- God is bigger than any problem. I know that, but when I read something for the entertainment value, I want it to be entertaining.

Finally, I’ve found an adult Christian Fiction series that doesn’t make me reach for the tissues, is well written, and is entertaining. Thank you, Dani Pettrey!

Dani contacted me a while back and asked if I would like to read one of her new books from her Alaskan Courage Series. I figured I’d give the genre one more chance and see how it was.

Alaskan Courage Series by Dani Pettrey - IdlewildAlaska

It was great! A wonderful mystery series surrounding an Alaskan family on an island in Prince William Sound. Dani has found that fine line, keeping the stories clean and entertaining, true to a Christian life, and NOT DEPRESSING. I received “Silenced” in the mail on Tuesday and finished reading it on Thursday. If that doesn’t tell you it’s a good book, I don’t know what will.

The back cover reads….

“Jake knew something was wrong, but he never guessed how wrong.

A relaxing day of rock climbing takes a disturbing turn when Kayden McKenna’s route brings her face-to-face with a dead climber. Is it a terrible accident or something darker? When the case is handed overburdened sheriff Landon Grainger, he turns to Jake Westin for help. With Jake’s past now revealed, he’s ready to use his talent for investigation again – but he could never prepare for where the mystery will take him.

Kayden’s climbing expertise soon leads her and Jake to the realization that the death was no accident. And worse, it seems the killer is onto them. When strange things begin happening in Yancy, Jake is terrified that once again his world may put someone he loves in danger. But the truth is far worse than he could ever imagine.”

“Silenced” is book 4 in the Alaskan Courage Series. I would definitely recommend starting with the first of the series, “Submerged” as the series follows the McKenna family and each book builds the different relationships. Although “Silenced” can hold its own and is a great read, I’m looking forward to starting with the first of the series and reading them all!
